Exercise 5
Learn about Cardiovascular Dynamics by completing the following lab simulation.
  1. Download and open the lab instruction worksheet (PDF format) for this experiment.
  2. Complete the PhysioEx Lab Experiments:
  3. Review what you've learned by downloading and completing the review sheet (PDF or RTF format) or taking the multiple-choice quiz.
Objectives:
  • To define the following: blood flow, peripheral resistance, viscosity, systole, diastole, end diastolic volume, stroke volume, cardiac output.
  • To explore cardiovascular dynamics using experimental setup to stimulate a human body function.
  • To understand that heart and blood vessel functions are highly coordinated.
  • To comprehend that pressure differences provide the driving force that moves blood through the blood vessels.
  • To recognize that body tissues may differ in their blood demands at a given time.
  • To identify the most important factors in control of blood flow.
  • To comprehend that changing blood vessel diameter can alter the pumping ability of the heart.
  • To examine the effect of strike volume on blood flow.
