Objectives:
  • To define: glomerulus, glomerular capsule, renal corpuscle, renal tubule, nephron, proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, and distal convoluted tubule.
  • To describe the blood supply to each nephron.
  • To identify the regions of the nephron involved in glomerular filtration and tubular reabsorption.
  • To study the factors affecting glomerular filtration.
  • To explore the concept of carrier transport maximum.
  • To understand how the hormones aldosterone and ADH affect the function of the kidney.
  • To describe how the kidneys can produce urine that is four times more concentrated than the blood.
